NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The labour minister says inflation was one of the main deciding factors in the Davis administration’s decision to raise the country’s minimum wage.

Prime Minister Philip Davis announced the increase from $210 to $260 in his national address last week.

Keith Bell says this year marks two decades since the minimum wage act was implemented back in 2002 by Former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.

He added that the government also had to take into consideration section 131 of the international labour organization convention on minimum wage, for those who think the increase is not enough.
