Minister Responds to Junkanoo Judging Criticism
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Youth, Sports, and Culture minister is responding to calls for the abolition and overhaul of the Junkanoo judging system by a well-known A- category group.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Youth, Sports, and Culture minister is responding to calls for the abolition and overhaul of the Junkanoo judging system by a well-known A- category group.
Mario Bowleg says he is proud of the recent Junkanoo parades, but not everyone shared those sentiments.
Roots Junkanoo Group held an entire press conference shortly after the parades, calling for the abolition of the current judging system. Roots Junkanoo Group Leader Wendell Francis even went as far to call the current system a “cancer”.
Roots placed fourth in the 2022 Boxing Day parade, third place for the 2023 New Year’s Day Junkanoo parade.
Roots members have said a revamp of the judging system is needed to provide a “fair chance for all groups”.
Bowleg’s stance on the issue is clear.
