Moment Of Silence Held For Don Saunders At CARIFTA Swimming Opening

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Over 300 swimmers from 24 countries paraded into the Nassau Cruise Port Ampitheater’s space in downtown Nassau to officially kick off the 2024 CARIFTA Aquatics Championships.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Over 300 swimmers from 24 countries paraded into the Nassau Cruise Port Ampitheater’s space in downtown Nassau to officially kick off the 2024 CARIFTA Aquatics Championships.

Carrying the banner for Team Bahamas was Don Saunders Jr. Don’s father, Don Saunders Sr., and avid swim parent and former FNM Mp for Tall Pines, was killed on Wednesday night at a club in Gambier Village.

Sports Minister Mario Bowleg initiated a moment of silence in his honor.

Bahamas Aquatics Federation President Algernon Cargill also brought remarks during the opening ceremonies.

The opening ceremonies ended in grand style with none other than the country’s best expression of culture, Junkanoo.
