NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A mother is awaiting sentencing after she left her six-year-old daughter home alone.

The 23-year-old cashier was arrested after police found the child wandering on Market Street on Friday, December 23.

The woman, who’s name has been withheld for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to cruelty to children at her arraignment before Senior Magistrate Anishka Isaacs.

The single mother said that she didn’t want to miss work because she’d only been there for four months.

She claimed that she’d left her daughter in her room that’s equipped with surveillance cameras.

The mother said she didn’t notice when her daughter left the room because she was busy at work.

The mother returns to court on Wednesday for sentencing.

She was released on her own recognizance.
