ABACO, BAHAMAS – Florence Roker and her two daughters’ lives were turned upside down in an instant when a bush fire, which had been raging for days, consumed their property.

It all began on March 30th, shortly after Florence took her daughters to the beach.

But what was suppose to be a day of family fun turned into tragedy. They returned home hours later to find smoke and flames dangerously close to their home.

When the all clear was given, the family managed to grab a few items but she says it can’t compare to years of memories they built.

The family has called Abaco home since 2021, and Roker said their trailer wasn’t just a place to live it was her sanctuary and her source of income.

Her youngest daughter, 12-year-old Gianna, lost most of her clothes and school supplies.

Her oldest, 16-year-old Ramiah, who’s an athlete, was preparing for nationals and lost her uniforms and gear.

Despite all of this, their mom remains grateful.

Since the fire, Florence and her two daughters have been staying with a family from the church they attend.

She’s now making a public plea not for herself, but for her children, to help them recover, continue school, and eventually, have a place to call home again.
