NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A woman who killed her one-year-old daughter by setting her afire has been released from a mental hospital.

Phillipa Marshall was committed to the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre after she was convicted of murdering her baby Philica Marshall following a trial in 2019.

Then Senior Justice Bernard Turner ordered her detained at the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre for six years, unless a psychiatrist decided she could be freed sooner.

Justice Neil Brathwaite ordered Marshall’s immediate release after Dr. Kirk Christie said she was ready for outpatient treatment.

On December 28, 2017, Marshall set her daughter afire after being told to do so by “demons.”

Little Philica died from her injuries in February 2018, 47 days after the incident.

Prior to the incident, Marshall had been hearing voices and attempted suicide.

Marshall went to a psychotherapy group but stopped taking her medicine after the voices continued.

She also underwent an exorcism after her bishop determined she was under a “spiritual attack.”
