NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 25-year-old inmate who escaped custody while awaiting trial for murder, armed robbery and arson has been sentenced to three months.

Cyril Soltau pleaded guilty to escape at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

The Court heard that the Jamaican national briefly evaded prison officers on April 27 after he jumped out of a window at the Princess Margaret Hospital and fled.

Soltau had been taken to the hospital for treatment after another inmate broke his jaw.

Soltau was shot and captured near Crooked Island Street.

Prosecutors say Soltau murdered Johnson Joseph during an armed robbery at a store at Windsor Lane on February 13 and set the place afire.

After the blaze was put out, they found Johnson Joseph bound at the hands and feet with multiple stab wounds about his body.
