Sichuan, who leads the league and group a at 31-1, begins their postseason run in the quarterfinals this weekend against Heilongjiang, fourth ranked in group in b at 21-11.
Last season in the WCBA, Jones, then with inner Mongolia lost to Sichuan in the finals series that went to a fifth and deciding game.
Over the course of series she averaged 30 points and 11 rebounds per game but Inner Mongolia blew a 2-1 series lead in the final two games.
Jones comes off a season of milestones in the wnba with the new york liberty.
She became the first Bahamian to win a WNBA title, was named Finals MVP, an All-Star, All-WNBA second team, All-defensive second team selection and launched her Nike KD 17 Bahamas player edition sneakers.
Tennis
It was a winning day for both the Junior Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams at the North/Central America and Caribbean pre-qualifying tournament in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Let’s start with the Junior Davis Cup team of Patrick MacTaggart, Alec Hooper and Aiden Ritchie won 3-0 over Bermuda.
In singles – MacTaggart defeated Tobiah Goodchild 6-2,6-0; Richie defeated Tristan Petit 6-0,6-3; and in doubles, Hooper and MacTaggert defeated Goodchild and etit 6-4,6-1.
The BJKC team – Tatyana Madu, Sarai Clarke and Briana Houlgrave defeated Aruba 3-0.
Houlgrave defeated kyanna seremel 6-1,6-0; clarke defeated mari baroud 6-2,6-3; and in doubles houlgrave and madu won over baroud and daniea goitia 6-4,7-5.
Next up for the Junior Davis Cup team, a matchup against Aruba in the 9-16 playoffs while the Billie Jean King cup team faces Curacao in the 9-12 playoffs.
NBA
The honeymoon phase for Jimmy Butler and the Golden State Warriors is going as well as it always does and it’s paying dividends for Buddy Hield.
Hield scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Warriors to a 128-92 win over the Charlotte Hornets in their third game out of the NBA All-Star break.
He shot 6-11 from the field and 4-9 from three point range.
The Warriors improved to 6-1 since they traded forButler. It was also their fourth-straight win and third-straight blowout.
Five of the six wins with Butler have been by an average margin of 24 points per game.
The Warriors are now 31-27 and moved into the eighth spot in the Western Conference.
Golden State begins a five game road trip tonight against the Orlando Magic.
MLB
Sebastian Walcott gets his first hit and Jazz Chisholm scored his first run as MLB spring training continues.
Walcott finished 2-2 and scored a run in his Texas Rangers’ 15-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals in cactus league play in Surprise, Arizona.
He entered the game as a pincH hitter in the seventh inning and immediately doubled to centerfield and scored on a Cody Thomas line drive.
Defensively, he made the switch to shortstop and returned to double again in the ninth inning.
In grapefruit league play, Chisholm and the New York Yankees won 7-0 over the St. Louis Cardinals.
He scored his first run of spring training in the bottom of the third inning on a Cody Bellinger single.
