NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A National Food Policy is topping the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Family Island Affairs’ agenda this year.

The goal according to Minister Clay Sweeting is to drive food security in the country. Sweeting says he’s excited about the new initiative.

A recent United Nations Food Agricultural Organization’s study revealed that 17.2 percent of Bahamians suffered “moderate to severe food insecurity” at the height of the pandemic.

To help bolster food security, Sweeting says they’re now looking at how they can make local farming easier and more attractive.
