NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Michael Darville tabling the new National Health Insurance Bill, 2022 which will repeal and replace the 2016 legislation.

Dr. Darville says the current bill is no longer sufficient to meet the evolving needs of NHI and the increasingly complex financial landscape of the country.

Services include primary healthcare services, health education and promotion, early detection, and preventative care among other things.

Since 2017, 135,000 Bahamians were enrolled in the NHI program.

Darville says the bill will require private insurers who offer health insurance plans to offer newly proposed standard health benefit packages as minimal standard coverage.
