NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Recently-elected Bahamas Nurses Union President Murial Lightbourne is looking to address the longstanding issue of nurse retention.

Speaking on the sidelines of the National Tripartite Council Annual General Assembly, Lightbourne says the plan is to find a way to improve provisions to keep nurses.

The last industrial agreement signed under former President Amancha Williams saw a retention plan for nurses but Lightbourne says a lot of nurses aren’t pleased.

There’s also the issue of nurses working in Family Islands. Lightbourne says one nurse leaving the healthcare system, is too much.

While she says government has been trying, she believes there’s a lot more work to be done.

She’s also dispelling talks that it’s all about the money.
