NASSAU, BAHAMAS – New Providence was slammed by an intense thunderstorm, that dumped heavy rain and electrified skies with lightning in the pre-dawn hours.

As the sun rose, the impact was clear with heavy flooding impacting scores of residents.

Many residents in the country were awoken by a severe thunderstorm. The widespread flooding making it difficult for drivers to commute here in the capital.

But for residents in the Bacardi Road area, the flood waters were not confined to the roadway.

We met this family dumping buckets of water out of their home, something they say they’ve done every time it rains heavily.

Edron McPhee lives with his family in the home. He didn’t go to work because he had to help bail water out of their home.

He says this time of year always has them on edge.

There was widespread flooding on Carmichael Road, Gladstone Road, and parts of the Airport Road  where this dash cam footage showed drivers cautiously traversing several inches of water.

It resulted in a long line of traffic stretching more than a mile as motorists headed west.

However, this plant nursery owner says the rain is a blessing.
