Nine People, Including Five Children, Stabbed to Death in Suriname

SURINAME – In Suriname, nine people — including five children — have been stabbed to death on the outskirts of Paramaribo, according to police.

Authorities say officers responded to a home Saturday night, where they shot and detained a male suspect who is now hospitalized and under police guard.

One adult and one child survived with serious injuries.

Local media reports suggest the suspect may have been suffering from mental health issues, though officials have not confirmed that claim.

Suriname’s President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons said members of her family and neighbors were among the victims, calling the attack unimaginably painful.

Police say a full investigation is underway.
