NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investment Chester Cooper recently touted billions of dollars in projects he says are slated for next year.

Zhivargo Laing, the executive director of the Government Public Policy Institute at the University of The Bahamas, says there’s potential for more. This is, if we can be more aggressive with our investment promotions.

But even after we’ve caught a potential investor’s eye, Laing says there is room for improvement in how we go about it.

While acknowledging the vital role the country’s tourism sector plays in the country’s gross domestic product, Laing, who is also a former member of parliament and state finance minister, emphasizes the need for diversified investments to fuel economic growth.

And Laing says when it comes to foreign investment that makes a difference.
