NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Dozens of residents of the Opulent Drive shantytown helplessly watched as their homes were dismantled in a demolition operation.

Over 82 unregulated structures torn apart by tractors and heavy machinery.

This father of three, who had resided in the Haitian village for nine years, expressed the grim reality that he and his family would be forced to sleep in their truck as they had nowhere else to go.

This latest in a series of similar demolition exercises across the country, is part of government’s aggressive effort to rid the country of illegal communities.

But tonight this father crying shame on government, for what he describes as the unfair treatment of Haitians living in The Bahamas.

Moments before his church became rubble, our news spoke with Gene St. Clair, a community pastor who says after two years of occupying the property, he’s sad to see the place where his members have come to worship, ripped to peices.
