PERU – Protests over the imprisonment of Peru’s ousted president Pedro Castillo continuing today as the former leader telling Peruvians he is being “unjustly and arbitrarily detained”.

Castillo thanking his supporters for their “effort and fight” since he was taken into custody last week, during a hearing today to determine whether he will remain jailed for three years while authorities build a rebellion case against him.

Protests have been particularly violent outside Peru’s capital, Lima with officials reporting seven people have died since demonstrations began.
