UNITED NATIONS – The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon is deepening, as the United Nations says more than 822,000 people have now been registered as displaced, including nearly 300,000 children.

U.N. officials say about 28,000 people are sheltering in nearly 600 collective sites across the country but warn the true number of those forced from their homes is likely much higher.

The U.N. and Lebanese government have now launched a $308M humanitarian appeal as Israel expands airstrikes in Beirut’s Southern suburbs and across Southern and Eastern Lebanon.

The escalation comes after Israel launched a limited ground incursion into southern Lebanon earlier this month.
