NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Tears and heartbreak filled Munnings Drive Wednesday morning as police discovered the body of a woman in a wooded area off Gladstone Road,  a scene that drew family members, friends, and onlookers overcome with emotion.

While police have not yet confirmed the victim’s identity, relatives of 30-year-old Lauren Seymour, who was seven months pregnant and reported missing since Sunday,  say there is no doubt the body is hers.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Earl Thompson told reporters the discovery came after a targeted search connected to a recent missing person’s report.

“In a wooded area, they found a partially decomposed body of a female. At this time, she’s not able to be identified and likewise we could not determine age. What we can say though is that based on investigation of a recent missing person, that investigation led us to this area where the body was found,” Thompson said.

Family members, who had spent the past two days searching alongside the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and community members, said they were devastated by the discovery.

“We was here until after nine o’clock last night,” said Lauren Saunders, Seymour’s aunt. “Police wouldn’t let us go further up than this area, and then this morning, we saw on Facebook that they found a body of a young lady. They didn’t say whether it was my niece or not.”

Another relative, visibly distraught, pleaded for authorities to treat cases like this with urgency.

“They need to take things seriously. This woman pregnant, she have two kids. What if this was y’all sister or one of y’all family members?”

Police say investigations are ongoing to confirm the victim’s identity and determine the cause of death.
