DENVER – Passengers were forced to evacuate onto the tarmac of Denver International Airport on Friday after an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 caught fire while taxiing.

Footage showed passengers huddled on the plane’s wing, some holding bags, as flames burned near the aircraft’s underside.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that all 172 passengers and six crew members safely exited the plane using inflatable slides.

Twelve passengers were hospitalized with minor injuries. The plane, originally en route from Colorado Springs to Dallas Fort Worth, diverted to Denver after reporting “engine vibrations.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
