Philippines Mayor Survives Grenade Launcher Attack, Four Dead

PHILIPPINES – A mayor in the Philippines has survived a brazen rocket attack after suspected hitmen targeted his convoy in a deadly shootout.

Officials say Mayor Akmad Mitra Ampatuan escaped unharmed when his armored SUV was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Maguindanao del Sur.

CCTV footage shows the vehicle briefly engulfed in flames as gunmen opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Police say the mayor’s security detail returned fire, killing all four suspects during a pursuit and recovering high-powered weapons.

Authorities believe the attack may be linked to local political tensions just two months ahead of regional elections.

An investigation is now underway.
