“The Progressive Liberal Party conducted their inaugural mass rally for the election season at RM Bailey Park. This event showcased their candidates for eastern New Providence. They addressed their supporters on topics including VAT, immigration, and employment.”

On Saturday night, thousands of PLP supporters gathered at R.M. Bailey Park for the party’s Rally for Progress.

Candidates arrived to fanfare, escorted by motorcades.

During the event, there were fireworks and confetti that added to the high-energy atmosphere.

However, the focus quickly shifted to criticism of the Free National Movement’s campaign promises and its record in office.

“When the FNM had the power, what did they do for the workers? Did they raise the minimum wage? No, N-O. Did they sign industrial agreements? No, N-O. Did they promote public servants who had been waiting for years for recognition? No, N-O.”)

She also accused the previous FNM administration of dismissing 2,500 civil servants, a claim the FNM has rejected.

Immigration was another key issue raised during the rally.

In recent weeks, both parties have engaged in a back-and-forth over border security.

The PLP’s candidate for Yamacraw, Zhane Lightbourne, added his voice to the debate.

“Under this government, we have carried out more than 13,000 repatriations. We are sending people back to their country if they overstay and come here illegally. This is a record — record repatriations, record lows in landfalls, thanks to the Royal Bahamas Police Force. We are the only party in this election that has demolished shanty towns — more than 500 structures.”)

Before party leader, Philip Davis took the stage was deputy leader and Exuma and Ragged Island candidate Chester Cooper.

His message was that this is no time for unsteady leadership.

“Now while we are busy building a country, the other side is just running another stage play! Michael Pintard used to be an actor, and he literally wrote the book on politricks. Well, East New Providence, the FNM isn’t much of a political party anymore. It is just the latest production from Politricking Pintard!”
