PLP Ratifies Fourteen Candidates At Packed Party Headquarters

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Fourteen candidates for the Progressive Liberal Party were ratified Thursday night at the PLP Headquarters. While twelve of the candidates are all standard bearers and familiar faces, two candidates are new to the political scene. At the ratification, Prime Minister Philip Davis also put an end to the speculation, announcing there will be a by-election in Golden Isles following the sudden passing of Golden Isles MP Vaughn Miller last month.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Party Chairman and Fox Hill MP Fred Mitchell was only one of fourteen candidates ratified for the Progressive Liberal Party Thursday night, as the political landscape heats up ahead of the upcoming general election.

While twelve of the candidates are all standard bearers and familiar faces, two candidates are new to the political scene.

The PLP ratified entrepreneur and Island Luck CEO Sebas Bastian for Ft. Charlotte.

Supported by outgoing MP Alfred Sears, Bastian says while he’s moving into politics – he’ll step aside from operating one of the country’s largest gaming operations to pursue politics.

“I am a problem solver, I have built things that needed to be built, so its time to put this vision and ingenuity to work for something bigger,” Bastian said.

The PLP also ratified Darron Pickstock for Golden Isles after the seat became vacant after the sudden passing of former MP Vaughn Miller.

Pickstock, who is an attorney by profession, has been serving in the senate since the PLP’s 2021 election win.

In recent times, he’s also been vocal about concerns surrounding mental health and suicide prevention.

He had this to say to party supporters:

“This campaign is about you, it is about safer streets in Golden Isles, it is about affordable living in Golden Isles, it is about better schools, stronger families, and a fair chance for every child in Golden Isles,” Pickstock said.

Three women were also among the 11 men ratified – Golden Gates MP Pia Glover-Rolle, Elizabeth MP Jobeth Coleby-Davis and Seabreeze MP Leslia Miller-Brice.

Pia Glover-Rolle – PLP Candidate, Golden Gates

“So Golden Gates, if you want continued progress, more opportunities, community growth, then it’s Pia for progress. It’s Pia and the PLP,” Rolle said.

Jobeth Coleby-Davis – PLP Candidate, Elizabeth

“Don’t stop the progress, break the cycle, choose progress and stand for stability,” Davis said.

Leslia Miller-Brice – PLP Candidate, Seabreeze

“We’ve built programs, open doors, and built real change for the people of Seabreeze,” Brice said.

However, the ratifications didn’t end there.

Keith Bell will again represent Carmichael, Mario Bowleg in Garden Hills, Jomo Campbell for Centerville and Leon Lundy for Mangrove Cay Central and South Andros.

Keith Bell – PLP Candidate, Carmichael

“In 2026, when the election is over, Carmichael will remain PLP,” Bell said.

Mario Bowleg – PLP Candidate, Garden Hills

“Your faith in me is humbling and I will seek every day to prove worthy of it,” Bowleg said.

Jomo Campbell – PLP Candidate, Centerville

“We’ve had our shoulders to the wheel from day one, working for and on behalf of the people. The proof of the pudding is there for all to see and taste,” Campbell said.

Leon Lundy – PLP Candidate, Mangrove Cay, Central and South Andros

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen Andros on the move, communities going stronger, roads being built, young people stepping into new opportunities, and families beginning to feel hope again. That didn’t happen by chance,” Lundy said.

The party also ratifying Myles Laroda for Pinewood, Bacchus Rolle in South Beach, and Jamhal Strachan in Nassau Village.

Myles Laroda – PLP Candidate, Pinewood

“Don’t worry about the noise in the market, when that number is called, whenever it is called, market Pinewood in the winning column,” he said.

Bacchus Rolle – PLP Candidate, South Beach

“PLP’s since we did it before, lets do it again,” Rolle said

Jamhal Strachan – PLP Candidate, Nassau Village
