NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Progressive Liberal Party hit the streets in Golden Isles Wednesday night, campaigning to retain the vacant seat in the wake of the passing of MP Vaughn Miller.

The party moved full force into the community with senior party members like Prime Minister Philip Davis and several cabinet ministers.

As election fever heats up, Davis is making his case for why the PLP must keep the Golden Isles seat in the upcoming by-election.

He spoke to reporters at the lying in state of former MP Vaughn Miller, whose sudden passing left the constituency without a member of Parliament.

The party moved its campaign machinery into the area, which included Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, the prime minister, and Energy and Transport Minister JoBeth Coleby Davis and their teams.

Cooper telling us the party is on the ground.

“We are all committed to retaining the Golden Isles seat as a part of the Progressive Liberal Party’s team,” he said. “We have started that work in earnest. It is going fairly well, and I think after Friday it will be in full gear.”

Last week, the PLP ratified Senator Darron Pickstock as its candidate for the area.

The Coalition of Independents ratified Brian Rolle but it’s unclear if the Free National Movement will contest the upcoming by-election. The party ratified Brian Brown earlier this year.

And while former prime minister Perry Christie says he will continue to support the PLP, at the end of the day, he says it’s up to the people.
