NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis met with residents in the Mount Moriah constituency to address crime concerns Monday evening.

Gathering in a packed C.W. Sawyer Primary School hall, Davis reassured residents that his government is doing all it can to curb the violence.

When it comes to crime, murders remain a major concern as victims are being gunned down on a nearly weekly basis.

There have been just shy of 50 murders so far this year and the shootings are not always deadly but it doesn’t make them any less shocking.

The nation was left reeling on July 1st when a 13-year-old boy and 19-year-old woman were hospitalized after a Wulff Road shooting.

And earlier last week, a mass shooting in Mason Addition left residents visibly shaken and four men nursing gunshot wounds.

But despite this, the prime minister insists his administration’s five pillar plan to tackle crime is working.

The prime minister had this message for the young men across the nation.

“You are not beyond help,” he said. “To those who are on the edge — don’t fall. To those who are thinking about picking up a gun — think again.”
