Police Commissioner: Either We Charge You Or We Rule You Out
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Under the Anti-Gang Bill 2024, anyone found guilty of harboring a gang member could find themselves jailed up to 20 years.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Under the Anti-Gang Bill 2024, anyone found guilty of harboring a gang member could find themselves jailed up to 20 years.
For gang members under 18, their parents could find themselves charged with harboring them.
Some have raised the concern that innocent parents who didn’t know about their child’s connection to organized crime could be punished in the process.
But Commissioner of Police Clayton Fernander says.
Fernander defending the penalty saying harboring can come at a grave cost to truly innocent bystanders.
Both police and politicians have repeatedly urged the public to keep an eye out for the warning signs that their child or loved one may be involved in criminal activity, including bringing guns home, having new cars or expensive items while unemployed.
National Security Minister Wayne Munroe going as far as to warn parents to look out for strange haircuts…
Meantime Fernander says he fully supports the bill that was passed in the House of Assembly and has to be debated in the Senate.
