Police Commissioner: Rapes Up 11 Percent In 2023

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – While the police commissioner says overall crime is down, he also revealed there were 61 rapes in 2023 which he says is an 11% increase over 2022.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – While the police commissioner says overall crime is down, he also revealed there were 61 rapes in 2023 which he says is an 11% increase over 2022.

Eight of those victims were tourists.

Overall sexual offenses stand at 204 for 2023, the same as 2022.

Even more startling is the number of victims who knew their attacker.

Meanwhile, 97% of rape victims were women while 3% were men; 72% of the victims were under 35.

Additionally, 95% of the suspects were males, and 73% of the suspects are under 35-years-old.

Clayton Fernander is advising parents to pay close attention to their children.

The police commissioner was unable to say how many of these incidents were resolved.

Fernander also had multiple safety tips for women going on early morning jogs.
