COLORADO, UNITED STATES – Police in Boulder, Colorado, say they arrested a man on Sunday following a disturbing attack near the Pearl Street Mall that left multiple people with burn injuries.

Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn described the situation as “very preliminary,” but confirmed that dispatchers had received alarming reports of someone “setting people on fire.”

FBI Director Kash Patel has called the incident a “targeted terror attack,” while Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser added that it appears to be “a hate crime.”

Officials have not released the identity of the suspect, and the motive remains under active investigation. However, the attack comes amid heightened tensions across the U.S. surrounding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza.

Authorities say they are working closely with federal partners to determine whether the incident was motivated by racial, religious, or political bias. More information is expected to be released as the investigation develops.
