NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A statement from Bahamas Power and Light revealing a cable fault caused several units at BPL’s Baillou Hill and Clifton Pier Power Plants to trip ending in darkness for 50% of consumers.

The power loss happened around 6:30 Wednesday. We spoke to residents who seemed fed up.

In a statement, BPL said more than 100 megawatts of generation was temporarily unavailable.

BPL’s teams responded immediately to conduct initial assessments and begin returning the units to service.

BPL Chief Operating Officer Toni Seymour explaining what came out of the assessments.

BPL also started repairs to its underground cables at the Soldier Road substation that were damaged which delayed restoration to that area until early Thursday morning.

But a short time later BPL revealed residents of Nassau Village and Sapodilla will see another outage for emergency repairs.

As the summer months get hotter residents were without power for six hours today.

The BPL COO had this to say to the impacted consumers.
