What does it mean to be prepared and how does one household differ from another? That’s one of the issues Trevor Johnson, a PhD candidate at North Dakota State University is examining.

While we know to stock up on canned goods and bottled water, Johnson says there’s so much more to how we prepare for a storm – but the problem is, there’s not much research behind it in this part of the world.

The extent of how we prepare for a disaster can be influenced by a number of factors, including finances.

And the steps to recovery may also be impacted by how connected you are to information, and your mental and physical capacity.
