NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A former corrections officer caught smuggling drugs into prison has been jailed for eight months.

Kedeem Watson was arrested on April 11 after his superiors found 1.2 pounds of marijuana hidden in his thermos.

Police officers found 1.1 pounds of marijuana when they searched his apartment later that day.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of drug possession with intent to supply and taking prohibited items into a correctional facility before his trial began before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

Watson was sentenced to three months for the drug charges and eight months for taking drugs into the prison. The sentences will be served at the same time.

Watson will serve an additional four months behind bars if he doesn’t pay a fine of $2,500.
