Public Reacts To Mask Enforcement

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In less than 24 hrs, masks will no longer be required at the majority of places in the country. The lifting of the mask mandate comes as a relief for many. But, some are questioning if local businesses can make it mandatory for masks to be worn in their stores.

How do members of the public feel about the issue?

Some residents say persons should be able to choose whether or not to wear a mask, while others say they wouldn’t have an issue with continuing to wear the mask.

As of October 1st, masks are no longer mandatory except for gaining access to healthcare facilities, elderly care facilities, and schools. Some businesses, like Super Value food store, have already made posts indicating that as of October 1 masks will no longer be required for entry.

Ahead of this week’s cabinet meeting, Attorney General Ryan Pinder was asked if businesses can require their patrons to wear masks.

When it was originally implemented, fines were levied against those found in breach of the rules mandating the wearing of masks.
