NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A step in the right direction, that is how members of the Rastafarian community in The Bahamas are describing the proposed cannabis bill that was made public on Thursday.

Our News has followed the religious organization’s fight for their sacramental practices to be respected which includes the use of marijuana.

Chairman for the local community Rithmond Mckinney says it’s a step forward.

The government released a compendium of 11 cannabis-related bills for consultation.

The provisions include decriminalizing cannabis under 30 grams, legalizing medicinal and religious use of cannabis, and expunging criminal records for cannabis possession under 30 grams.

Mckinney says discussions will continue as the bill continues to be drafted.
