GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The holiday season is a time for family gatherings and creating memories, but preparations begin weeks in advance for police in Grand Bahama as residents traverse the streets, shop at their local stores to purchase gifts, household items and more.

While this extra spending injects into the local economy, it also creates opportunities for increased crime.

Business owners in the Western district say the area is generally safe, noting the family like communities.

However, they are grateful for the officers’ heightened presence during the holiday season.
