NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With more than a thousand cameras registered and spanning key locations throughout the capital, more than $8 million has been invested in the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s CCTV system.

The police force is taking the next step asking residents with private security cameras to register their systems with the force.

Officer-in-Charge of Information, Communication and Technology, Assistant Commissioner of Police Zhivago Dames  revealed the system has already played a critical role in identifying suspects, resolving disputes, and solving a number of criminal cases.

But ACP Dames stresses the process  is simple and completely voluntary.

But the question is will police have automaTic access to your camera? ACP Dames settles those concerns.

“Once you are registered with us, you have full control over your equipment and the content,” the senior officer said. “We are not able to view those cameras from the real time crime center. The only thing that we are able to see, as I’ve mentioned, is that Jane Doe, John Doe, has registered their cameras with us. And as such, we will contact you, again, ask you to check your system.”
