NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A regional conference that focuses on agriculture is being held in The Bahamas. 

The goal? To educate and facilitate discussions on a growing industry around the Caribbean. 

The 34th West Indies Agricultural Economics Conference kicked off at the Breezes Resort Monday night.

The conference examines agricultural institutions policies, and systems in the region, as well as focuses on the economic problems surrounding agricultural production while facilitating the exchange of ideas between entities amongst other objectives. 

Giving the keynote address, Prime Minister Philip Davis sharing the importance of agriculture in Bahamian society.

The conferences that are normally held every two years was thrown off schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

President of the Caribbean Agro-Economic Society Sr. Carlisle Pemberton says the society is pleased to be in The Bahamas for this year’s conference..

This year’s meetings marking the second time The Bahamas is hosting the event and the first time BAMSI is serving as co-host.

Agriculture Minister Clay Sweeting says the conference falls in line with government’s plan to ensure food security.
