Reservist Lernex Williams Remembered In Solemn Funeral Service

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A somber scene at Christ Church Cathedral this morning as family, friends, and colleagues gathered to say a final farewell to Police Reserve Inspector Lernex Williams.

Williams, who was fatally shot on Father’s Day while making a bank deposit at the Royal Bank of Canada Palmdale branch, was remembered for his dedication to service and his commitment to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Dignitaries, including past and present prime ministers and cabinet ministers, joined officers and mourners to pay their respects.

Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles shared a tribute dedicated to his bravery:

“ From the very start, he embodied the finest traditions of policing, commitment, courage, integrity, and loyalty. His heart was always devoted to the protection of others,” she said.

National Security Minister Wayne Munroe also addressed those gathered, drawing from the scripture and reflecting on Williams’ impactful life.

Prime Minister Philip Davis used his tribute to call for national unity in the fight against crime:

“ The wake of the government is geared towards building stronger families and safer communities and more supportive public institutions. So let our collective resolve be strengthened…”

“…The government just can’t do it alone, nor can our law enforcement officers. I encourage all to form partnerships with and support our law enforcement officers in their reforms and community outreach program as they stand between civility and anarchy,” he said.
