NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Shannon Bannister is one of hundreds of retired police officers who served for over 10 years and claim they’ve never received gratuity after their retirement.

Section 90 of the Police Force Act covers gratuities and says when advised by the Police Service Commission, the governor-general may grant a gratuity for each year of the officer’s service at four percent of the officer’s salary at the date of retirement.

In 2013, lawyer Dr. Glendon Rolle represented several retired police officers looking to get millions of dollars worth of outstanding gratuity.

Wednesday morning, Minister responsible for National Security Wayne Munroe had this to say in the House of Assembly.

Leader of the Free National Movement Michael Pintard shared his hope on the matter.
