LONG ISLAND, BAHAMAS – A portion of the Queens Highway in Long Island was renamed after businessman and community builder Joseph B. Carroll.

The monumental day brought his loved ones and top-ranking government officials to honor his memory.

The road stretches from an area called Pinders to Scrub Hill.

Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper was on hand to cut the ribbon and called it the latest of many exciting steps for the island.

The ceremony was held at NGM Major, the school Carroll too attended.

The renaming has been in the pipeline for 18 years.

Works and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears says the event shows the definition of what it is to live a successful life.

Area member of parliament Adrian Gibson joined in paying tribute to the life of Carroll.
