NIGERIA – Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba say they will deploy more than 400,000 security personnel ahead of the presidential election next week amid fears that Islamic extremists or secessionists could try to disrupt the vote.

Baba says the security forces also will be on hand in case of violent protests

The West African nation is set to elect a new president as it is confronted by a myriad of security problems: including an Islamic extremist insurgency linked to the Islamic state group in the Northeast, armed rebels in the Northwest, and secessionists in the Southeast.
