UNITED KINGDOM – Irish singer and activist Sinéad O’connor has died at the age of 56.

She was best known for her number-one hit single ‘Nothing compares 2 u,” which was released in 1990.

In 1992, she tore a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live as a protest against the Catholic church.

This led to protests against her, which saw copies of her records destroyed in New York’s Times Square.
