NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A mentally ill man who stabbed his coworker at a popular restaurant has been jailed for six months.

Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr imposed the sentence on David Poitier after he pleaded guilty in relation to the October 24, 2023 incident at Poseidon’s Restaurant at Atlantis.

Poitier has been in custody since his arrest. The court initially remanded him to prison for mental testing after his first court appearance.

Poitier admitted the offense after a psychiatrist determined that he was fit to plead.

According to the prosecution, Poitier, who worked as a steward, attacked his coworker Kandice Clarke and stabbed her in the back after she told him good morning.
