Southern Shores MP “I Spoke In Good Faith”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Tribune newspaper is reporting that Southern Shores Member of Parliament, Leroy Major, has raised concerns about being left out of key decision-making.

He reportedly went as far as to suggest to the daily that he may not be renominated as a Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) candidate in the upcoming general election.

Major also reportedly criticized a $20 million flood mitigation budget allocated for Pinewood Gardens, highlighting that communities within his own constituency, such as Marshall Road, continue to struggle with severe flooding.

And that’s not all he had to say. Major also told The Tribune that he believes backbenchers are being overlooked, while Cabinet Ministers benefit from greater access to government resources.

However, after the story made front-page news, the Southern Shores MP issued a follow-up statement clarifying that his intentions were misunderstood.

In the statement, Major said he spoke in good faith, hoping to spark constructive dialogue. He also stressed that he holds full respect for the PLP’s internal processes.

He stated, quote:
“At no point did I seek to cast aspersions or question the character of my colleagues.”

The PLP quickly responded, issuing a brief statement of its own, saying it “takes note” of Major’s remarks but insisted that his comments do not reflect the facts of the situation.

Still, Major says he will continue serving the people of Southern Shores with gratitude until the next general election. And if not renominated, he insists he will remain a proud supporter of Prime Minister Davis and the PLP’s re-election bid.
