NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Back-to-school season is in full swing across Grand Bahama, with streets from East End to West End buzzing as students head back to classrooms.

We visited several public and private schools to see children and parents kick off the new academic year.

Parents dropped off students amid busy traffic, with police on hand to ensure safety and smooth movement.

This year is especially significant with the long-awaited opening of Holmes Rock Junior High in West Grand Bahama, nearly ten years after construction began.

MP Kingsley Smith called it “a monumental achievement” for the community.

In East Grand Bahama, students continue returning to classrooms as schools rebuild post-Hurricane Dorian.

Parents expressed excitement and relief, while faculty at Sunland Baptist Academy, St. Georges High, and Sister Mary Patricia Junior High shared enthusiasm for the year ahead.

Community groups, like the City of Freeport Council, even handed out breakfast to parents to mark the occasion.
