HAITI – Supporters of former rebel leader Guy Philippe have launched protests paralyzing cities across Haiti, demanding Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s resignation.

AP reports that demonstrators closed schools, government offices, and businesses.

Philippe who was recently repatriated, denies plotting a coup but seeks to transform Haiti amidst deepening poverty and rising gang violence.

Philippe, known for a 2004 rebellion, returned to a Haiti plagued by gangs responsible for numerous killings and kidnappings.
