NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The two suspects who engaged police in a shootout, following a high-speed chase were being electronically-monitored, according to police.

Press Liaison Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings says one of the suspects went as far as to completely cover the electronic monitor in foil, however, she reiterated the commitment police have to catching criminals.

It was around 2:30pm, when police received a report that a woman was robbed at gunpoint, outside a western New Providence Bank.

Officers from Operation Cease Fire observed a white vehicle speeding south on Gladstone Road.

A chase ensued and ended in Jubilee Gardens, where the suspects crashed into a wall, totally surrounded by police.

Two of the suspects were armed with handguns when they exited the vehicle and began firing at police. Officers returned fire, shooting one of the suspects.

A large quality of cash was recovered from the suspects’ car, believed to be from the robbery in western New Providence.

Police say the vehicle involved in the incident was also reported stolen around midnight in eastern New Providence.
