Swim Team Chaperones Critical To Their Success

CURAÇAO – There are many people to be thanked for the success of this year’s 2023 CARIFTA Aquatics Team, two of those people are the team’s chaperones.

The swimmers, the parents, the coaches, the medical team, team manager, Bahamas Aquatics Federation Executives – these people were all critical to the success of the 39-member swim team.

But there were two others that stood out, The team’s female and male chaperones – Karon Pinder-Johnson and Traven Cargill.

Pinder-Johnson says she was honored to be selected.

There were 20 girls and 19 boys on the team.

Cargill, who brought lots of excitement every single day and kept the kids motivated, says he too was honored.

He also spoke to the pressure of being part of a national team in the 50th year of our country’s independence.

The swimmers are now five-time consecutive champions – bringing home 37 gold, 27 silver and 21 bronze for a total of 85 medals.
