T-Bird Flyers Meet Wraps Up Over The Weekend

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The T-Bird Flyers Track and Field meet concluded at the old Thomas A. Robinson stadium over the weekend. 

A number of athletes posted CARIFTA qualifying results including high jumpers Keyezra Thomas, Alexandria Komolafe, and Koi Adderley on the girls’ side and Jelani Morrison on the boys’ 

Reigning CARIFTA javelin champ and record holder Kamera Strachan won the event over the weekend, qualifying with a throw of 43.7 meters, surpassing the qualifying distance and the reigning silver medalist also qualified. 

Discus throwers Annae Mackey and Caylin Johnson also turned in qualifying finishes.

Track and Field

Ken Mullings made history over the weekend.

The record-setting decathlete set a national record in the men’s indoor pole vaults, jumping 5.06 meters at the Illinois Open Meet on the University of Illinois campus.

The previous record was 4.95 meters, set by Brent Vanderpool in 1988, almost a decade before Mullings was born. 

Mullings ran in the event unattached. He also won the 60-meter hurdles and came 6th in the shot put. 

Soccer Qualification

Mingoes Men’s Soccer Head Coach Alex Thompson recently completed his B-license qualifications from USA soccer. 

Thompson is one of only two coaches in the country with such a qualification, which took months to complete.
