SINGAPORE – Lamar Taylor’s historic 2025 season continues at the international level as he emerged with a new national record in the 100m free against the top swimmers in the world.
Taylor won heat 9 of 12 in 48.52 secs at the World Aquatics Championships in Kallang, Singapore.
He finished 22nd out of 113 swimmers, but only the top 16 advanced to the semifinals.
Taylor lowered his previous record of 48.84 secs and is still the only Bahamian to go under 50 seconds in the event.
He continues his meet with the 50m free on Friday, and the 50m back on Saturday.
Also in competition for Team Bahamas Mark-Anthony Thompson finished 65th in the 50 breast in 29.88 secs.
In the 100m breast, he finished 66th overall in 1:08.56 secs.
On Thursday, Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson will compete in the 100m free while Victoria Russell takes on the 50m fly on Friday and the 50m free on Saturday.
Volleyball
The Bahamas Volleyball Federation has named both its men’s and women’s teams as preparations continue for the Cazova Caribbean Volleyball Championships.
The country will host several of the top teams from around the Caribbean, August 14-23 at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
The women’s team will be captained by Raechel Knowles, one of two outside hitters along with Hannah McBride.
Middle blockers include Sari Albury, La’tavia Braynen, and Alexandria Strachan.
Right side hitters are Vanessa Sawyer, Khalea Johnson, Shanyhah Bowe and Egianette Pierre.
The setters are Leandra Johnson and Zarria Rose.
The Liberos are Chandra Mackey and Abbeanna Brennen with Anjeniker Joseph as the defensive specialist.
On the men’s side, middle blocker Shonari Hepburn is the team captain.
The roster also includes Libero Jamaal Ferguson and defensive specialist Camaule Coakley.
The outside hitters are Tavin Brown, Kyle Wilson, Tyrone Sands, and Chauncey Cooper.
Setters include Jevaughn Saunders, Gaege Smith, and Brosnan D’arville.
Hepburn will be joined by Eugene Stuart and Donavan Wilmott in the middle blocking core.
Renaldo Knowles is the head coach of the women’s team and Glen Rolle will coach the men.
The Bahamas will take on Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Guadeloupe, Curacao, and Suriname.
Golf
Team Bahamas teed off in competition at Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships in Puerto Rico.
Madison Carroll and Hayley Hall lead the team after day one and are two of the top performers in the girls 15u division.
Caroll was tied for first place after shooting an opening round 73 while hall was tied for third with a 78.
Chemari Pratt finished the round third in the girls 18u with an 82 and Anissa Robinson was tied for 8th at 88.
In the 11-13 division Kayleigh Rolle was tied for 6th and Ra’annah Hanna was 10th.
On the boys’ side, William West was 5th in the 11-13 flight with a 79 and Na Kai Wilson is tied for 13th.
In the 15u, Maxamilian Landry is tied for 8th with 81 while Rashawn Hanna is tied for 12th and Cadron Nixon is 15th.
In the boys 18u, Aidan Gorospe shot 76 to tie for 10th Kerrington Rolle was tied for 16th while camdyn forbes was in 18th.
