NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Team Bahamas returned from St. Lucia just before midnight Tuesday following their second consecutive win at the 2024 Goodwill Games.
The team racked up 1,485.5 points along with 141 medals, 55 of which are gold.
The team also took four of the high point categories: Iabella Munroe in the Girls 9 -10, Dexter Russell in the Boys 11-12, Rafael McBroom in the boys 13-14 and Donald Saunders Jr. in the Boys 15 and over.
Here were some of the medal collectors from the final day of competition.
Noel Pratt and Gillian Albury did the 1-2 in the Girls 11-12 100m breast. They spoke about their races.
Now while there was no fanfare upon Team Bahamas’ late arrival at Lynden Pindling International Airport, Our News understands that some sort of celebration is being planned for a later date.
Basketball
Franco Miller’s last national team appearance was in Spain and now it’s the country where he’ll begin his pro career.
Miller signed with FIBWI Palma.
Of the feb second league for the upcoming season and in the Spanish cup.
A 6’2″ combo guard out of Florida Gulf Coast, he averaged 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in his senior season with the Eagles.
A mainstay on the Senior Men’s National Team program since 2021, Miller has been an integral part of the qualification process at several levels.
At the FIBA Olympic games qualifier in Spain, he averaged 4.3 points and scored 20 in a friendly against Montenegro.
Baseball
Freedom Farm Baseball League concluded it’s Cal Ripken Major 70 World Series appearance with a winning record and a few post tournament awards.
The team finished as quarter finalists in the Iron Bracket and with a 4-3 record over the course of the week long event in Branson, Missouri.
Freedom Farm was one of 40 teams in the field, which included 14 international teams.
Several team members received post tourney awards.
Gianno Newball was named to the all-tournament first team, Issac Richardson was named to the all-tournament second team and Bosfield Butler received the gold glove award.
Meanwhile, Bahamian players have been putting up some major numbers recently in Indy baseball.
D’shawn Knowles had his marquee moment Monday night for the Sioux City Explorers in their come from behind win over the Kansas City Monarchs.
Knowles hit a full count, bases loaded, grand slam in the 8th inning to put his team ahead for good in the in the 16-13 win.
He finished 3-5 on the night with four rbi.
Over in the pioneer league, daunte stuart’s bat is helping the oakland ballers make a late season playoff push.
Stuart hit two solo home runs in the ballers’ 3-0 win over the Boise Hawks.
He finished the pivotal series hitting . 318 with the pair of home runs.
In their first season as an expansion team, the ballers moved into a tie for second place in the second half standings.
