GRENADA – The senior men’s national soccer team was back on the pitch in the latest round of FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Grenada overwhelmed The Bahamas 6–0 in the CONCACAF second round of qualifiers Wednesday night at the Kirani James National Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada. 

The home side dominated time of possession at 74 percent and registered 13 shots on goal compared to The Bahamas’ 2.

Grenada picked up their first win of the qualifiers, elevating them to fourth while at 0-3, The Bahamas continues to seek their first points in the campaign.

It’s a quick turaround for Team Bahamas.

They head to Barbados for a matchup against group leader Costa Rica on June 7 at the Barbados Football Association Technical Centre in Bridgetown. 

Baseball

The Bahamas Baseball Association is preparing to host the first phase in their annual celebration of the sport and a local legend.

The Andre Rodgers Senior National Championships will be hosted June 6-9 in honor of Fred “Papa” Smith.

The event will feature four teams in the 23-u and six teams in the 16-u divisions, vying for the national title at the Baillou Hills Complex and the national stadium.

The 23-u teams will play three group games and the u-16 teams will play five games in the round robin format.

Medal games in both divisions will be played on Sunday.

The Community Baseball League are the defending champions in 23-u and the Junior Baseball League of Nassau are the 16-u defending champions.

Other participating leagues include the Freedom Farm Baseball League, Ed Armbrister Baseball League, Grand Bahama Little League, Legacy Baseball league, and the Abaco Youth Baseball League.

Smith is a revered figure in bahamian baseball, celebrated For his significant contributions as a player, coach, and mentor. 

In 1968, he signed with the cleveland guardians organization, reaching as high as triple-a.
